"We get very few complaints about doctors' unavailability these days," Dr Swayam Prakash Pandit, director at the hospital, said.According to Dr Pandit, doctors as well as other staffers at the hospital have to register their attendance twice a day, between 9:00 - 9:30 am and 4:00 - 4:30 pm in afternoon. The hospital had enforced biometric attendance system a year ago, after all its attempt to keep the doctors at the hospital up to duty hours failed.
Despite providing up to 300 percent additional allowances of the salary, most senior doctors at the hospital used to flee to private clinics and nursing homes. The hospital provides 50 percent additional allowance to all staffers, including peon. Doctors get 100 percent allowance of their salary for serving 9 am to 5 pm. Those who involved in the academic activities like teaching at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) get 150 percent allowance and anesthetic doctors get 250 to 300 percent allowance from the hospital. Despite the huge perks and salary, the hospital had to struggle hard to keep the doctors at the hospital till the duty hours.
Biometric attendance system uses finger, face or iris to verify a person's identity and track their entry and exit time. Bir hospital has installed the iris recognition technology.
