Toxic mushroom claims three in Palpa

PALPA, July 3:
Three minor boys have been killed and three others taken seriously ill after consuming poisonous mushroom in Haklang VDC-8 in Palpa district on Monday night.



The deceased have been identified as five-year-old Kushal Rana, 11-year-old Kiran Saru and 13-year-old Ekbir Saru. They had fallen sick after consuming toxic mushroom on Saturday and subsequently died while undergoing treatment at Palpa Mission Hospital last night.



Naresh Saru, 8, Susmita Saru, 6, and their mother Thankumari, 45, are said to be in critical condition. They are receiving treatment at Tansen-based Mission Hospital.



According to Kiran´s mother, the children had brought the mushroom from the jungle and then cooked it and consumed it when the parents were away.



Similarly, Prakash Sunar of Gulmi is also in critical condition after consuming poisonous mushroom. He has been undergoing treatment at Mission Hospital, Palpa.
