According to TIA, the new system would support data communication for the operations of flights providing all information through internet. ICAO last year had issued a circular to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) asking it to install the new system within November 15, 2012. [break]
Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, General Manager of TIA said that the new system will allow the Air Traffic Controllers and airlines official to view active flight data report online. “It is also going to support air safety as the information about weather can be exchanged through text and graphics,” he said.
According to the officials, the system generates flight strip automatically thereby lessening the burden of Air Traffic Control. However, this will not allow the passengers to get the information about the flights online.
“We are working on a different project to make sure passengers get information about flights and it will be completed in 2013,” added he.
TIA has installed the new system at the cost of around Rs 90 million. Germany based Comfsoft GmbH had won the bid for the project. CAAN in assistance of Airways International of New Zealand has prepared detail design and specification of the system.
Under the TIA´s plan to bring the domestic airport under AMHS terminal, domestic airports at Bhadrapur, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Lukla, Simara, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Surkhet and Dhangadi will benefit during the first phase.
“We will be bringing all the airports under this system in the near future,” he added. At present HF radio voice communication is being used for domestic operation which will be replaced by data communication after bringing these airports under the system.
