KATHMANDU, Dec 12 : CPN-UML’s chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed dissatisfaction with senior vice-chair Ishwar Pokhrel accusing him of attacking the chair in the guise of ‘constructive criticism’ ahead of the closed-door session of the party’s 11th General Convention.
Speaking at the party’s Central Committee meeting convened at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday morning, Oli openly took a sharp dig at Pokhrel, accusing him of attempting to attack the chair under the guise of “constructive criticism” and policy reporting.

Oli alleged that certain leaders (Pokhrel faction) were advancing “others’ agendas” within the party and even pushing for disciplinary action against him.
“Under the pretext of constructive-criticism inside the party, some are carrying someone else’s agenda,” Oli said. “Are they demanding that the then prime minister—me—be punished?” He reportedly expressed anger that calls for action against him had been documented internally, even though, neither opposition parties nor the media had dared to make such demands.
Pokhrel had earlier stated publicly that Oli should testify before the Gauri Bahadur Karki led investigation committee formed to investigate physical and humanitarian loss during the Gen Z movement. Pokhrel had said that anyone found guilty by the probe committee should face action. His remarks have been widely interpreted as a direct challenge to Oli’s leadership.
Oli also clarified procedural matters related to the general convention, stating that until new leadership is elected and sworn in, all members would retain their status as Central Committee members. He further informed the meeting that the presidium to run the closed session would be chaired by the party chairman himself.
