KATHMANDU, Dec 14: The 11th National General Convention of the CPN-UML is underway since Saturday, with the election of new leadership at the top of its agenda.
Party chair KP Sharma Oli is set to face a tough contest from senior leader Ishwar Pokhrel as thousands of delegates from across the country gather in Kathmandu to choose the party’s next leadership.

Amid the convention, Gen Z activist Raksha Bam, has issued an open appeal to UML convention delegates through social media. Recalling the September 8 incident, she accused the then Oli-led government of opening fire on unarmed youths.
“The most pressing question today is KP Sharma Oli’s hands are stained with the blood of our generation—and whether you are prepared to share responsibility for that blood. Perhaps this is the last opportunity,” she wrote.
Bam and other activists have been demanding that Oli take responsibility for the crackdown on the September 8 Gen Z movement and face action over the incident.
