It’s always good to go back in the memory lane and reminisce on good old music. You may be pretty tied up during the whole week but at least you can wind down this weekend by catching up on some tracks from the yesterdays. From Rock to Pop music to Indie Rock, we’ve listed a few albums that you shouldn’t miss.

Both Sides of The Gun by Ben Harper

This album released in 2006 became Harper’s first US Top 10 Hit on the Billboard Hot 200 album charts, entering and peaking at number 7 on its release.

Split into two discs, the title suggests the two sides of Harper’s musical nature. The first disc, “White,” is made of mostly acoustic and string-driven songs. The second disc, “Black,” is made of more rootsy and upbeat material and touches on genres such as Hard Rock, Funk and Gospel. The album saw Harper playing most of the instruments on both discs, an approach that he had rarely used on his previous albums.[break]

Red Letter Days by The Wallflowers

It’s the fourth album by The Wallflowers, released in 2002. The album peaked at #32 on the Billboard 200. Red Letter Days was the first Wallflowers record that featured Jakob Dylan (son of Bob) playing most of the lead guitar parts. The album had a much more aggressive sound than any of their previous releases, especially the song “Everybody Out of the Water.”

The first single and only music video shot was for “When You’re On Top.” Although the album contains some profanity on the track, “Everybody Out of the Water,” it doesn’t carry the Parental Advisory sticker on the album.

I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning by Bright Eyes

The album is one of two Bright Eyes albums, along with Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, released in 2005. The album was successful in receiving mostly positive reviews from music critics.

The song “Road to Joy” from the album contains an interpolation of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” The title of the album is taken from a line in this song. The group achieved success in the charts when the singles “Lua” and “Take It Easy (Love Nothing)” took the top two positions in the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart in 2004. In 2005, the band set off on a two-part world tour to promote the album along with Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. Both records made it into the Top 20 of the Billboard album charts, with I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning peaking at #10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan by Bob Dylan

This is the second studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released in 1963. Whereas his debut album Bob Dylan had contained only two original songs, Freewheelin’ initiated the process of writing contemporary words to traditional melodies. Eleven of the thirteen songs on the album are original compositions by Dylan.

The album opens with “Blowin’ in the Wind,” which would become one of the anthems of the 1960s, and an international hit for the folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary soon after the release of Freewheelin’. The album featured several other songs which came to be regarded as amongst Dylan’s best compositions and classics of the 1960s folk scene: “Girl from the North Country,” “Masters of War,” “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall,” and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”.

(What’s the Story) Morning Glory? by The Oasis

This is the second studio album by Oasis which was released in 1995 on Creation Records. The structure and arrangement style of the album were a significant departure from the group’s previous record Definitely Maybe. The record propelled Oasis from being a crossover Indie act to a worldwide Rock phenomenon, and according to music critics, it was a significant record in the timeline of British indie music. The band’s most commercially successful release, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? sold a record-breaking 347,000 copies in its first week of sale, spent 10 weeks at #1 on the UK Albums Chart, and reached #4 in the US Billboard 200.
