SURKHET, Dec 29: Police have taken into custody a vehicle and its owner after the vehicle hit a pedestrian and fled the scene near the Tempo Park in Birendranagar on Saturday morning.
According to the District Police Office, Surkhet, the vehicle bearing registration number Lu 2 Kha 5783 was seized from the Botechaur area through a joint operation by traffic police and Nepal Police.

The vehicle owner, 34-year-old Lok Bahadur BC of Simta Rural Municipality–6, has been arrested. However, the driver remains at large. Police identified the absconding driver as 32-year-old Dilliraj Kandel, a native of Dailekh and currently residing in Birendranagar Municipality–2. A search operation to locate him has been intensified.
The pedestrian, 43-year-old Jang Bahadur Budha of Dungeshwar Rural Municipality–5, sustained critical injuries in the collision and later died during treatment.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
