SPORTS BRIEFS: Ghimire elected Asian Development Director

KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Nepal Blind Cricket Association (NBCA) President Pawan Ghimire has been unanimously elected the Asian Development Director under World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC). The general assembly of WBCC held in Bangalore, India on Wednesday and Thursday elected Ghimire, who had earlier served in the same post for two years. Ghimire was elected unopposed after a Sri Lankan withdrew his candidacy from the post.



Ghimire will work under Sultan Shah, the newly appointed president of WBCC. Meanwhile, Nepal also got chance to organize the upcoming general assembly of WBCC in 2014. [break]



Departmental teams off to winning start



KATHMANDU
: Departmental teams -- defending champion Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force (APF) -- made winning starts in the Eighth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Double League Women´s Volleyball Tournament that kicked off on Thursday. In the inaugural match, Police registered straight set 25-9, 25-12, 25-9 win over Dhading District Volleyball Association. APF also defeated the same team 25-0, 25-6, 25-5. In another match, Fishtail of Pokhara edged past Kavre District Volleyball Association 25-6, 25-3, 25-7.



Aruna Oli wins gold



KATHMANDU
: Aruna Oli of Nepal claimed gold under junior girl´s 35 kg category in the First South Asian Gojurio Karate Championship that kicked off at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium on Thursday. Oli defeated Priyanka Rani of India. Rinu Sunwar defeated Jasmindar Kunwar of Indian in 40 kg category for gold. Similarly, Sandhya Nagarkoti in girl´s cadet girl´s U-9 age category and Simran Shrestha in U-10 category took home gold. Umesh Ghalan and Sandip Basnet secured gold in cadet U-10 and U-9 age category. Earlier, CPN-UML leader Bidhya Bhandari inaugurated the two-day long event.



Host St Xavier´s in QF



KATHMANDU
: Host St Xavier´s advanced into the quarterfinals of the 17th Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament held at its ground in Godavari, Lalitpur. St Xavier´s edged past Dongden Devi School of Tipling, Dhading 4-0. Mausam Shrestha netted twice while Rajesh Jimmi and Rupesh Yadav scored one apiece. In other matches of league rounds, Little Angel´s and St Xavier´s emerged victorious.
