SPORTS BRIEFS: ACE, Informatics, Campion triumph

KATHMANDU, Nov 12: ACE, Informatics and Campion College won their respective league round matches on Friday in the Toyota Football Frenzy 2010 inter-college five-a-side football tournament underway at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall.



A lone goal from Nitesh Lama in the 21st minute gave ACE a 1-0 victory over NAMES. [break]



Similarly, Informatics B saw off Rato Bangala 3-1. Ankit Ranamagar scored twice for the victorious side in the 10th and 13th minutes after Pramesh Khatri had opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Ayush Shrestha scored a consolation goal for Rato Bangala in the 28th minute.



Campion upset the hosts Kathmandu College of Management B 2-0. Prasanna Thebe opened the scoring for Campion in the fourth minute, and the second goal came from Kenny Rai two minutes later.



Meanwhile, the league matches between Prime and SAIM and between Malpi Institute and College of Business Management (CBM) both ended in 1-1 draws.



Prime had taken a second minute lead against SAIM through Anil Gurung but failed to continue with their lead as Nibesh Thapa scored the equalizer for SAIM a minute later from a spotkick.



Likewise, Kunchok Norbu had put Malpi ahead in the 14th minute against CBM, but Prabesh Limbu of CBM leveled the scoring three minutes from time.



Hamal, Luka start on winning note



Lunel Luka of Romania, FIDE Master Manish Hamal and former Nepal champion Nabin Tandukar won their respective first round matches in the First Yala Cup Rating Chess Tournament that kicked off Friday at Sajha Party Palace, Lalitpur. Similarly, Shyam Sundar Shrestha, Harichandra Tandukar, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Bikash Kuluju, Bivek Lama, Suraj Lohani, Umesh Saiju, Mankumar Gurung, Himal Lama and Sanjay Lama also emerged victorious on the first day. Altogether 50 players are participating in the four-day tournament.
