Special Committee for 4,171 vacancies in NA

KATHMANDU, Nov 22: A meeting of the Special Committee (for supervision‚ integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants) on Wednesday decided to ask the government to create 4,171 new vacancies in the Nepal Army for the purpose of accommodating former Maoist combatants.



A meeting of the committee held at its secretariat in New Baneshwar‚ Kathmandu decided to create 4,171 vacancies in the Nepal Army in order to accommodate 1,462 former Maoists combatants opting for integration into the national army. [break]The remaining 65 percent of the vacant posts (2,709) posts would be filled by recruiting candidates through open competition as per the political deal between the parties.



Emerging from the meeting Special Committee member Ram Sharan Mahat said, “Now the government can open vacancies for different ranks in the Nepal Army.”



Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, another member of the special committee, said that the cabinet will soon endorse the decision to form a directorate or a separate unit under NA. “We will work out other details in our next meeting,” said Pun.







The meeting has also paved the way for starting the training for former Maoists combatants opting for integration in the Nepal Army, according to Mahat. Earlier, the parties had decided to form a separate directorate to integrate around 6,500 former combatants.



The Special Committee is yet to determine the time and type of training to be provided to former combatants and also the unit to be formed by integrating them. The next meeting of the Special Commitee is scheduled for Friday.
