The Academy, which runs +2 classes and Tribhuvan University courses, organized a press meet in the capital on Friday and informed that the cricket tournament would be a national inter-college cricket tournament. [break]Academy director Subash Bahadur Shahi said the tournament carries the highest prizes in domestic cricket.
"We have allocated Rs 495,000 for prize money," said Shahi. The winner of the tournament will get Rs 200,000 while the runner-up will receive Rs 100,000. Similarly, man-of-the-series and man-of-the-final will bag Rs 50,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively.
Likewise, the best batsman, the best bowler and the best fielder of the tournament will get Rs 20,000 each while man-of-the-match of every game will receive Rs 5,000 each.
According to Shahi, 16 colleges, including four local colleges, will participate in the tournament. "Four local colleges are included so that local talents get an opportunity while three colleges from Kathmandu and a college each from Bara, Janakpur, Jhapa, Pokhara, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Baitadi, Dadeldhura and Kanchanpur are also participating in the tournament. "A college team can include a maximum of four national players," said Shahi.
"The tournament will be played on knockout basis and it will be a T20 tournament," he added.
NASA International College, Kathmandu is the defending champion of the tournament.
The Hotel Devotee of Dhangadhi is the title sponsor of the tournament. "As title sponsor, the hotel would provide us financial assistance and other services worth more than Rs 500,000," said Shahi. "We have a number of co-sponsors. We are trying to host the tournament mobilizing local resources and sponsors," he added.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will provide technical support for the tournament.
