Issuing a press statement on Saturday, the party spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said their preliminary investigations have shown that the attack was ´premeditated by the extremist elements´ which are against peace, constitution and progressive changes in the country. [break]
"The attack carried out against the leadership [of a party] which is working round the clock in favor of peace, constitution and changes is ultimately a serious reactionary conspiracy against the republic," the statement said.
Padam Kunwar of Rajkut VDC-2 of Baglung slapped Dahal in his face during a tea reception party organized by the UCPN (Maoist) at Bhrikuti Mandap in the capital Friday afternoon. While the attack left Dahal´s glass broken, Kunwar was left seriously injured as enraged Maoists cadres indiscriminately beat him up shortly after his attack on Dahal. Kunwar is currently undergoing treatment at Police Hospital at Maharajgunj.
Police have arrested Kunwar along with his brother in law Bhim Bharati and Gobinda Karki, who shared the apartment with Kunwar in Kathmandu. While Karki was released on bail Saturday morning, Bharati has been kept in custody at Metropolitan Police Range Office, Maharajguj, for investigation.
Though the real motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the Maoist party has concluded that the attack was carried out with the objective to push the country towards regression as the nation was witnessing an intense battle between progressive forces and the forces opposing change.
Spokesperson Sapkota in the statement has also said that there could also be the conspiracy to erode the credibility of political parties and their leaders.
"Our party denounces the criminal incident and the individual supporting this malicious act. It will prove fatal act to give political color to these kinds of conspiring as well as criminal activities. Therefore, all the forces that are in favor of peace and changes should denounce these kinds of activities"" Sapkota has said.
The Maoist party has also demanded probe into the incident and publicize the truth behind the incident at the earliest. Likewise, the party has also asked the government to make appropriate arrangement for the security of top leaders of political parties.
Issuing separate statements on Saturday, Young Communist League National Convention Organizing Committee and the UCPN (Maoist) Magarat State Convention Organizing Committee denounced the attack and demanded the government to take stern action against all the people behind the attack against Chairman Dahal.
They have also termed the attack against all the changes including republicanism and secularism that have taken place in the country after Janaandolan II in April, 2006.
