KATHMANDU, May 19: The government has decided to celebrate Republic Day for three days. According to Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, a meeting of the Republic Day Main Ceremony Committee held on Monday at Singha Durbar decided to observe Republic Day on Jestha 14, 15, and 16 (May 28–30, 2025).
He stated that a Main Ceremony Committee, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has been formed to celebrate Republic Day 2082 in a grand manner.
The Main Ceremony Committee will include the Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, State Ministers, the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, the Chief of Army Staff, the Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, special class gazetted officers of the Government of Nepal, the Inspector General of Nepal Police, the Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, the Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department, and the mayors of municipalities within the Kathmandu Valley. The Home Secretary will serve as the Member Secretary of the committee.
The meeting decided to celebrate Republic Day on Jestha 15 with a three-day observance on Jestha 14, 15, and 16, which will include evening illumination (lighting of lamps) at all public institutions. To coordinate the celebrations, committees and subcommittees have been formed at the federal, provincial, and local levels, involving all three tiers of government, relevant agencies, the private sector, and various organizations.

Similarly, programs have also been scheduled at Nepali embassies, diplomatic missions, and trade missions abroad. The main event on Jestha 15 will be held at the Nepal Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, and will be organized by the Main Ceremony Committee.
According to Home Secretary Duwadi, on the occasion of Republic Day, various programs will be organized at the federal, provincial, and local levels on Jestha 14. These will include central-level programs by the federal government as well as events at the provincial and local levels.
Public awareness programs such as special dialogues, panel discussions, and radio dramas focused on Republic Day will be held on Jestha 14.
At the national level, newspapers and media outlets will be requested to publish special editions and commemorative publications for Republic Day, including collections of articles and literary works highlighting the diverse voices and perspectives on the republic.
Additionally, lamp-lighting events will be held at locations such as Durbar Square, Mandala, and other prominent public spaces.
On Jestha 15, the Nepal Army will perform a ceremonial bugle call (Reveille), along with cannon and gun salutes at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel. The main Republic Day ceremony, organized by the Main Ceremony Committee, will also take place at the same venue.
On Jestha 16, a program has been scheduled to decorate government buildings by respectfully displaying the national flag on rooftops and balconies, accompanied by evening lamp-lighting.
