Rs 1.9b budget allocated for metropolis

KATHMANDU, July 17: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has endorsed a budget of Rs 1.9 billion for the fiscal year 2012/13. The budget for this fiscal year is reportedly 40 per cent less than the previous year.



At a press conference organized here on Tuesday, KMC Chief Executive Officer, Kedar Bahadur Adhikari said the amount has been allotted to carry out various activities and meet to day-to-day administrative expenses of the metropolis. [break]



The KMC had spent an equal amount of Rs. 1.9 billion in the previous fiscal year, which included revenue collection worth Rs. 1.13 billion and Rs. 672.4 million generated through internal sources and received from the government and through people´s mobilization.



The only metropolitan city of Nepal has planned to set up disaster rescue and relief fund and thereby collect Rs. 100 from each household to carry out activities under the fund in the current fiscal year.



Likewise, the KMC, has planned to establish an Environment and Solid Waste Management Fund and double the tax that has been levied on motorbikes.
