ILAM, Dec 31: DSP Prakash Koirala of the No. 9 Battalion of the Armed Police Force (APF), Pashupatinagar, Ilam, has died of a heart attack. He collapsed suddenly on Wednesday morning after returning to his office following a patrol in the border area of Manebhanjyang.

He was initially taken to the Pashupatinagar Health Centre for treatment. As treatment was not possible there, he was referred to Fikkal Hospital. After doctors described his condition as extremely critical, arrangements were made to airlift him to Kathmandu with a cardiologist.
Koirala was flown to the APF Hospital in Kathmandu by a Fishtail Air helicopter, where doctors declared him dead at around 6 pm on Wednesday, according to APF sources. He had assumed charge as the garrison commander only a week ago.
