Prime Minister Oli to visit China in mid-March

KATHMANDU, Feb 29: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is to set out for a visit to China in mid-March.

A meeting of Council of Ministers held at Singha Durbar on Monday decided on PM Oli's maiden China visit since he assumed the office.


The government is to start preparations for the visit, shared Minister for Information and Communications and Spokesperson of government Sher Dhan Rai.

The meeting also reviewed the Prime Minister's recent six-day India visit (February 19 to 24), describing it as a historic and productive one.

During the meeting, it was assessed that the India visit had helped resolve the differences with the southern neighbor and augment the multi-faceted ties shared between these two countries, according to Minister Rai.

Similarly, the government has decided to observe upcoming Baiskah 24 in the month of Nepali calendar as the first National Press Day. Decision to this effect was made by the meeting of Council of Ministers to commemorate the publication of the Gorkhapatra on May 6, 1901

Similarly, the government decided to bear the treatment cost of Nepali Congress ailing leader Narahari Acharya and noted musician and composer of national anthem Amber Gurung.

The meeting decided to offer posthumously valour medals to pilot Dinesh Nepaune and co-pilot Santosh Rana of the Kasthamandap Airplane that crash-landed in Kalikot Friday.

The meeting recommended amnesty for 165 inmates with good conducts and completing the 40 per cent jail sentences and those over 65 years on the occasion of the promulgation of the new constitution.

Likewise, directives have been issued for completing the under-construction Dharan-Chatara-Gaighat-Katari and Sindhuli-Hetaunda roads within the next three years and float a proposal regarding the metro rail service.

According to Education Minister Girirajmani Pokhrel, the meeting appointed Raji Haider as the Vice Chair of Madrassa Board and formed a project implementation unit to rebuild the earthquake-damaged schools. RSS
