Local youths engaged themselves in decoration of the historic ponds at Birgunj, such as Ghadiarwa, Chapkaiya and rivers like Sirsiya, and Nagawa for the festival dedicated to the Sun God.
The rising and setting sun is made an offering during the festival.
According to Ghadiarwa Chhat Festival Management Committee, big welcome gate and information centres were built at various venues within the vicinity of Ghadiarwa pond.
Similarly, the Committee is going to mobilize significant number of volunteers to facilitate the devotees thronging several designated ponds in the locality.
In addition, sound system and lights have been installed in different places across the ponds and riversides to add musical element to the festival. Facility of drinking water has been arranged in separate places for the devotees.
The festival, observed as a common cultural symbol of Terai, starts from Kartik shulka chaturthi and is marked till Kartik shulka saptami. RSS
