KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Marking Safer Internet Day 2026, Ncell Foundation and NAASA Securities on Tuesday have jointly launched a nationwide initiative, Safer Internet Together (SIT), aimed at raising awareness about cybersecurity, data privacy, and digital safety. The initiative seeks to reach over 50,000 students, educators, and community members across Nepal, according to a press statement by the organizers.

Under the program, awareness sessions are being conducted in government, community, and private schools across Bagmati, Gandaki, and Madhesh provinces, focusing on students from grades 3 to 12. A specially curated physical handbook on internet safety is also being distributed to participating students. Following successful implementation in these provinces, SIT is planned to expand to the remaining provinces in the next fiscal year, the press statement reported.

This year, Safer Internet Day is observed globally under the theme “Smart tech, safe choices: exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.” The launch was marked during a session at Shree Rastriya Secondary School in Pokhara, where Ncell CEO Michael Foley spoke to students about navigating the digital world responsibly and safely.

“I am also a parent, and personal data is crucial for me. Technology plays a pivotal role in our daily lives, making it essential to understand the risks and be prepared. Through SIT, we aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world confidently, safely, and responsibly. I hope this initiative empowers the next generation to make the most of a connected future while staying protected,” said Foley.

Madan Paudyal, Managing Director of NAASA Securities, highlighted the importance of digital literacy alongside financial literacy. “Digital platforms shape how young people learn, communicate, and make decisions. Through our collaboration with Ncell Foundation, we aim to give students practical knowledge to protect their digital footprint, use technology responsibly, and build confidence online. This initiative reflects our long-term commitment to responsible digital empowerment and community development,” he said.

So far, SIT sessions have been conducted in nine schools—including Shree Rastriya Secondary, Shree Amar Singh Secondary, Little Step Secondary, Bhaskar Memorial, Rainbow Academic Homes (Kaski), St. Mary’s (Lalitpur), Bani Bilas High, and Adarsha High (Bhaktapur)—benefiting over 7,000 students with support from implementing partner, Asterisk Technology, the press statement reads.

The SIT initiative reinforces the organizations’ commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and digitally responsible environment in Nepal, addressing emerging risks while strengthening digital literacy, resilience, and trust.
