KATHMANDU, Jan 23: There has been an increase in the business of non-life insurance companies. According to the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), 18 insurance companies, including four micro companies, have collected premiums of Rs 21.30 billion in the six months of fiscal year 2024/25.

The premiums earned by companies this year are 9.60 percent higher than in the second quarter of last year. The NIA had earned Rs 19.44 billion in premiums by the end of last year.
According to the NIAA, the companies except United Ajod Insurance Limited and Prabhu Insurance Limited have seen an increase in business.
The companies have issued 1.56 million insurance policies this year. Last year, 1.44 million policies were sold during the same period.
Shikhar Insurance Company Ltd (SICL) has collected the highest premium of Rs 2.59 billion, while National Life Insurance Company Limited earned the lowest of Rs 621 million.
