CHITWAN, Sept 9: The dead bodies of five unidentified people have been left to rot in the Bharatpur Hospital as the hospital´s morgue has no place to accommodate more bodies.

For the last two weeks, foul-smell emanating from the five bodies that have been kept in the open has made life difficult for locals in the hospital´s vicinity.

Hospital authorities, however, accuse Bharatpur municipality of not carrying out its duties responsibly.[break]

“It is the municipality´s responsibility when no one comes to claim the bodies for a week,” said Dr Mahendra Raj Neupane Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

The municipality had recently come under severe criticism for disposing of the bodies in Narayani River in broad daylight. Similarly, a local forest group had protested when the municipality cremated the bodies near the forest.

“We are trying our best to find a proper place to cremate the bodies,” said executive chairman of the Bharatpur municipality Tikaram Kandel. He said they would soon come up with a permanent solution to the problem.
