SANKHUWASABHA, Feb 5: A laborer was killed after being run over by a tractor in Makalu Rural Municipality–5, Mudhe, in Sankhuwasabha district on Wednesday night.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office, the victim, Nemlal Tamang, was working on the North–South Koshi Highway when the incident occurred. Tamang reportedly fell from a moving tractor (registration number Na 5 Ta 7081) and was crushed by its rear tire, resulting in his death on the spot.

The deceased was employed on the under-construction Khandbari–Kimathanka road section under the North–South Koshi Highway project.
Police said the tractor driver, originally from Sindhuli and currently residing in Sankhuwasabha, fled the scene following the incident. A police team led by Inspector Meghraj Aryal was deployed immediately after receiving information about the accident.
The tractor was later found parked at Num Bazaar in Makalu–5 and has been taken under control by the Num Police Post. The incident site lies about 15 kilometers from the police post.
Preparations are underway to bring the body to Khandbari District Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have launched a search for the absconding driver and further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
