The government has allocated Rs 30 million for the conference in the current fiscal year. Originally planned for November, the event was rescheduled to coincide with the 2570th Buddha Jayanti celebrations following political and structural changes in the country.
Organisers expect participation from Buddhist scholars, spiritual leaders and distinguished guests from more than 60 countries. According to the committee, the conference aims to promote global peace through Buddhist philosophy and spread the values of compassion and universal brotherhood.
The two-day gathering will feature discussions and working papers on the heritage of Lumbini, Kapilvastu and other Buddha-related sites, the environmental condition of the Lumbini area, world Buddhist heritage, and Buddhist education and culture.
The Lumbini Development Trust said the previous two editions of the international conference had made significant contributions to Nepal’s religious, cultural and tourism sectors.
