The night bus en route to Dang from Kathmandu collided with the truck bearing Indian registration number, according to Superintendent of Police Nal Prasad Upadhyaya of the District Police Office (DPO), Nawalparasi.According to DSP Parshuram Tiwari of the Area Police Office at Nawalpur, Kawasoti, "It seems like the accident occurred as the truck driver drifted in the wrong lane. It is equally possible that it occurred because of break failure," said DSP Tiwari, adding that a detailed investigation is underway.
Only seven of the deceased have been identified till Friday evening. The identified bodies belonged to the bus driver, Jeeraj Khadka, 30, of Bijauri-2, Dang; Sumitra Lama, 23, of Kawasoti-8, Nawalparasi; her seven-month-old daughter, Anshu Lama, Maili Lama, 50, of Bardaghat-8, Nawalparasi; Govinda Basnet, 50, of Tribhuwan Municipality-3, Gyan Bahadur Shrestha, of Aamptari; and Narayan Prashad Adhikari, 55, of Lamahi, Dang, according to the report of Area Police.
The remaining two bodies--one male and the other female--are yet to be identified.
Similarly, among the injured are Sharan Naresh Nepali, 28, of Ghorahi Municipality-5, Dang; Bibek Adhikari, 27, of Ghyalchok, Gorkha; Susmita Dhakal, 24, of Kawasoti-2, Nawalparasi; Ek Bahadur Khadka, 45, of Bharatpur Sub-Municipality-2, Chitwan; Gopal Regmi, 30, of Rupandehi; Subash Singh Nepali, 19, of Bijauri-3, Dang, and the truck driver Byas Sharma, 51, of Uttar Pradesh, India, among others.
The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Medical College.
