The Hotel Entrepreneurs' Association, Chitwan, together with the Community Service Centre, Nayarangadh devised the 'Hotel, Lodge and Restaurant Code of Conduct-2072'.
Sauraha, the touristic spot in the district, alone has some 100 hotels which could accommodate as much as 2,500 persons on a daily basis.
According to Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Dr Man Bahadur BK, the new Code of Conduct is to come into effect from today and will be strictly enforced by the Police and the District Administration Office in the district.
According to the new Code of Conduct, no hotels in the districts shall be allowed to sell alcoholic beverage after 10 pm whereas the hotels operating at night could provide food service to travelers at any time. Similarly, the hotels in the districts will not be allowed to employ persons below 16 years.
The new Code of Conduct further has it that that no hotels in the districts will be allowed to run closed cabin facility. If the cabin restaurant is to be run, the hoteliers have to build a transparent door or curtain therein.
Additionally, any hotels that causes inconvenience to the locals by creating noises till late or are found to be running illegal activities shall be taken action against upon the locals' complaint, shared Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajan Adhikari.
Earlier in July 2007, the Hoteliers' Association had devised the first Code of Conduct. Since it turned out to be a lame duck, a new Code of Conduct has been formulated, according to Lal Bahadur Bhatta, President of Restaurant and Bar Associations of Nepal (REBAN), Sauraha Chapter. RSS
