Nepal loses last match of series

KATHMANDU, June 16: Nepali national team, under closed camp training in Dharamsala, faced a 24-run defeat at the hands of host Himachal Pradesh in the last match of 20-over three match-practice series on Tuesday.

With the result, Nepal wrapped the series with 2-1 against the Indian side. Nepal had recorded a five-wicket win in the first match on Sunday and defeated the opponent by 61 runs in the second match on Monday.

Three wickets from Karan KC and two wickets from Siddhanth Lohani had helped Nepal restrict Himachal Pradesh, which opted to bat first, on 136/7 in the allotted overs.

However, Nepali batsmen failed to produce good results as it managed only 112/7. Sharad Vesawakar's 36 runs off 21-balls was all waste as other batsmen failed to rotate the strike. Sharad, who remained not out, cracked two sixes and four boundaries.

Opener Subash Khakurel hit 23 runs off 39 balls while Gyanendra Malla scored 12 runs off 17 balls.

Skipper Paras Khadka (10 runs off 18 balls) and Binod Bhandari (11 from 10) were other batsmen to score in double digits.

Raghav Dhawan took the highest three wickets for Himachal Pradesh, which posted modest target against Nepal.

Abhimanyu Rana (26 off 30), Amit Thakur (23 off 26) and Sumeet Verma (20 from 12) were major run scorers for Himachal Pradesh.

Karan bagged three wickets for Nepal giving away only 15 runs in four overs, while Siddhant picked up two giving away 36 runs.

Nepali team is in Dharamshala preparing for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers to be jointly organized by Ireland and Scotland on July 9-26. Nepal will also play two List A matches of ICC World Cricket League Championship against Scotland on July 29 and 31.
