NC convention a boon to street vendors

Street vendors operating around Bhrikuti Mandap said their earnings soared sharply during the 13th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. Some of them shared their experience with Republica.



Bikash Khadka, 20

I have been selling soda drinks in front of Kathmandu District Court at Babarmahal. After learning about the NC convention, I relocated to Brikuti Mandap where the convention was being held. I earned Rs 7,000 in the past three days, which is a huge jump in my income.

Kamala Pokhrel, 30

I have been selling various food items including gram, pop corn and peanuts at Indrachowk and Ason. However, I came to know about the Nepali Congress convention being held at Brikutimandap. So, I moved my business there for the duration of the convention as it attracts large crowds.

My daily income has increased dramatically. I earn Rs 2,000 on a normal day. However, my sales during the convention were Rs 3,500 per day. Chatpate and beans are among the items that have attracted many people to my stall, thus bringing me a good income.

Sharmila Shrestha, 25

My brother usually runs this stall. However, he asked me to take over for a few days and relocate to Brikuti Mandap to take advantage of the large crowds present there.

I sell various fruits and my normal daily earnings are about Rs 1,500. After relocating to Brikuti Mandap for the NC convention, my daily income has soared to Rs 4,000. That is a lot more than I expected. The convention has helped my business and I am really happy.
