According to German Embassy in Kathmandu, NAST Vice Chancellor Dr Jibaraj Pokharel and IASS Germany Director of Programs Dr Mark Lawrence signed the MoU amid a program in Kathmandu.The MoU, which was signed in the presence of German Ambassador to Nepal Matthias Meyer, paves the way for the NAST for access to personnel, resources, scientific expertise, technical assistance, instruments and atmospheric observatories. This research will produce scientific data to serve as inputs to be used in developing policy measures in response to climate change.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor Pokharel said the MoU was just a beginning and that NAST would be working with IASS to enhance people's resilience to cope with the challenges posed by climate change in Nepal.
Likewise, Ambassador Meyer said science is complex for laymen but its advancement contributes in making people's lives easier. "Nepal falls among countries vulnerable to climate change. Therefore, innovation of science is the only way to save lives from this challenge," he added.
IASS, based in the city of Potsdam, Germany, is an interdisciplinary institute engaged in the promotion of science and research on global sustainability.
