The 41-year old was nominated a member of the NSC on June 12, 2014 under CPN-UML quota. She became the first woman to take charge as the executive head of the NSC since its formation in 1964.The letter sent by the MoYS state that Nagarkoti would hold the post of member secretary of NSC until further notice and she would oversee day-to-day office work, including financial affairs. The post of member secretary was vacant at the NSC after Yubaraj Lama's four year tenure ended on Friday.
Nagarkoti, a cadre of CPN-UML, assumed her office on Monday, at the NSC premises in Tripureshwar. Speaking at her welcome ceremony before assuming the office, Nagarkoti said that she expressed commitment to leave no stone unturned to develop and solve the problem of Nepali sports. "I hope to get support from one and all, including the NSC employees, players, coaches and all sportsperson. Working together, we can maintain discipline and contribute to the growth of sports," she said.
Nagarkoti, who hails from Punarbas of Kanchanpur, served as the vice president of Dadheldhura District Sports Development Committee from 2006 to 2009 and vice president of the district volleyball association since 2007. She is also a secretariat member of the Nepal Confederation of Sports, the sports wing of CPN-UML. She has also played in national tournaments of kabbadi and volleyball in the past.
