According to Manbir Chhantyal, the president of host Dhorpatan Sports Club, Gurung was selected for being a successful captain, international and disciplined player.

"She deserved to be awarded as Gyanu Baba won titles fifth time in row under her captaincy. Besides this, she is not only disciplined but also an international player," Chhantyal said adding, "Thus we decided to award her with a scooter."

Dhorpatan had announced to award scooters to two players as TVS player of the year and another based on spectators vote.

"In the beginning we had announced to award scooters to two players only but to honor her contributions we decided to award her as the player of series," Chhantyal said.

Gurung who arrived in the capital on Saturday said that the award will motivate her to do better in future. "The award will motivate me to put better performance in future," said Gurung, who, however, was disappointed for failing to win the title for the sixth time in row.

"I would have been happier, had we won the title this time as well. But we could not play better in the second round," Gurung said. Nepal Police Club took home Dhorpatan title for the first time.

Chuda Khadka of Police was declared the TVS Player and Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond the best player award on the basis of spectators voting to win scooters.

Despite few volleyball tournaments, Gurung is optimistic about future of volleyball in nation.

"I hope there will be improvement in volleyball in future. We could learn and play better if we get more chances to play international matches," Gurung said.

Nepali women team has not participated in a single tournament after competing in the 10th South Asian Games in 2006 in Sri Lanka. Gurung was a member of the team that won bronze medal in Sri Lanka.
