Police said Birendra Maharjan had been on the run since Sept 19 when police seized two pistols and 14 round of bullets from Gunaasha Bhu Crusher Industry in Lele which he owns.[break]
According to police inspector Abadhesh Bista, Maharjan was arrested on the basis of a tip-off. Maharjan has been sent to Chapagaun for further investigation where he faces charges under arms and ammunition act. But Maharjan has rejected the police charges and claimed he was innocent.
Police say they believe Maharjan, who is also a contractor, was hiding the unlicensed weapons to threaten his competitors.
