KATHMANDU, March 11: Kathmandu’s air quality has deteriorated, making it the fifth most polluted city in the world with an AQI of 180, according to the Air Quality Index.
Beijing, Kampala, Delhi, and Kuwait occupy the top four spots, with AQI levels ranging from 184 to 240. The poor air quality in Kathmandu is attributed to local wind patterns and the western low-pressure system, which has prevented rainfall.

The sky over the valley is cloudy. Due to the influence of local winds and the influence of the western low pressure system, there has been no rainfall. Due to this, the air quality has become unhealthy.
From a health perspective, an air quality index of 0-50 AQI is considered good, 51-100 AQI is moderate, and 101-150 AQI unhealthy for sensitive groups. Similarly, if the index reaches 151-200 AQI, it is unhealthy, 201-300 AQI is very unhealthy, and if it is above 301, it is considered dangerous, according to the Department of Environment.
The AQI measures the amount of invisible pollutants in the air. AQI refers to the amount of invisible particles, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and nitrogen oxides, smaller than 2.5 microns, mixed in the air.
