Shambhu Chaudhary, who was absconding after killing Kapan-based Mata Manakamana Jewellery Shop owner Harka Bahadur Diyali Friday evening, and Deepak Khawas, who was also involved in the murder, were held following a tip-off from two accomplices already arrested in Kathmandu on Saturday, according to Chief of Chitwan Police Bhupal Bahadur Bhandari. Police also found a Chinese pistol and a home-made pistol from a garbage heap near Norling Monastery in Tinchuli, Kapan Saturday.
Kathmandu Police had arrested Shankar Ghising (30) of Makwanpur Friday night and Prem Sunar (40) of Okhaldhunga Saturday afternoon on Ghising´s tip-off. Diyali´s assistant Roshan BK was also injured in the incident.
Police said Chaudhary had taken a loan of Rs 47,000 against gold from Diyali a few months ago. Investigations have revealed that the deposited gold was looted from a jewelry shop in Pokhara a few months ago.
Chaudhary then hatched a robbery plot at a rented room in Tokha. Police said Diyali had already locked his safe when the six robbers stormed the jewellery shop at around 6.45 Friday evening. They shot at Diyali when the latter refused to hand over the key of the safe containing gold ornaments. They also fired at Diyali´s assistant BK who arrived after hearing the noise and fled away.
Sunar had been painting houses in Kathmandu Valley for a long time and doubled up as robber during night. Ghising has admitted his involvement in jewelry shop robbery in Pokhara and a murder case in Sunsari a couple of months ago.
