JUMLA, Jan 6: District Education Office (DEO) of Jumla has been found charging fees to students for District Level Examination (DLE) 2072, going against the country's law. According to provision 6 of the Education legislation, community oriented government school cannot charge fees from students for basic education till eighth grade.

The law provides that these students have right to free education. However, the examination committee has been found charging Rs 300 to all the eighth graders for "conducting and managing the DLE." A total of 2,681 students from 68 schools have applied to appear in the DLE in the district.

According to the headmaster of Chandra Nath High School in Khalanga Bazaar, the fees were collected compulsorily from every student wanting to appear in the DLE.
