A police officer says that 39 civilians were killed in Sunday's attack in the city of Hillah, while the rest of the dead were members of the security forces. Hillah is located about 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad.
A medical official confirmed the causality figures. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.
