KATHMANDU, June 10: Supreme Court on Wednesday issued an interim order to implement the Petroleum and Gas Transaction (Regulatory) Orders 2013 endorsed by the cabinet on February, 2013.

A single bench of Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Shah issued the interim order, responding to a writ petition filed by one Rastriya Bimochan Timalsina.

The cabinet had endorsed the order in a bid to end monopoly of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) in trading of petroleum products and allow private sector to involve in petroleum trading and operation of oil refinery. The order, however, could not be implemented as then commerce minister chose to put implementation of the order on hold.

Timalsina had filed the petition, arguing that there should not be monopoly in supply of essential commodities like petroleum products in the age of liberalization.
