IFAD provides Rs 3424m to Nepal

KATHMANDU, Dec. 2: The International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) has agreed to provide a total of Rs 3424 million for the implementation of the Kisankalagi Unnat Biu Bijan Karyakram (improved seeds for farmers program) to the Government of Nepal including a grant assistance of Rs 1712 million (US dollars 19.7 million) and loans assistance of Rs. 1712 million.



The objective of the project is to improve the household incomes though sustainable, market led productivity improvement with the aim of scaling up an agriculture-led growth model.



The Ministry of Agriculture Development will be the lead executing agency.



The programs for seven years will be implemented in six districts, four in mid- western including Rukum, Salyan, Rolpa and Pyuthan and two in western -- Gulmi and Arghakhanchi, benefiting 150,000 households.



The agreement to this effect was signed today at the Ministry of Finance between Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Madhukumar Marasini and Benoit Theirry, country program Manager of Asia and Pacific Division, IFAD.
