KATHMANDU, March 16 : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has put forth conditions for Nepal if it is to host Namibia in Kathmandu for two List A matches (50-over) for the third round of the ICC World Cricket League Championship. The two matches are slated for April 16 and 18.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the ICC informed that Nepal has to assure the world cricket governing body that the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground is suitable enough to host the match. In addition to that, assessment and approval of local security plans for the matches and players selection through an independent panel are also the pre-requisite for hosting the matches. The independent panel to pick players includes Asia Development Officer Venkatapathy Raju besides the national team coach and captain. However, press release issued by the ICC states that Raju will act as an advisor to the panel.

The ICC said that the decision was taken after agreement with CAN ad hoc committee (formed by National Sports Council), CAN elected committee (dissolved by NSC) and the National Sports Council.

"Whilst acknowledging that Nepali cricket does not currently have a functioning governing body and that a case is currently before the Supreme Court in this regard, the intention of these discussions was to find a solution that would allow Nepal to compete in these matches, and potentially host them," states the release.

Similarly, Asia Development Manager Bandula Warnapura will undertake an inspection of the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground to assess its condition. However, the ICC said that the venue could be shifted if these assessments are not passed.

"If these assessments are passed, the matches will take place in Kathmandu with ICC conducting the match preparations and operations on an independent basis. The National Sports Council has nominated Bhawana Ghimire to work with the ICC as a local liaison officer in this regard," said the ICC.

"The governance challenges currently being faced by Nepali cricket are unfortunate to say the least," ICC Head of Global Development, Tim Anderson, has been quoted as saying in the release. "However, in the best interests of the game, the players and the fans, we are heartened by the cooperation of all parties in agreeing a set of solutions that allows these important matches to be played, and consideration given to them for being played in Nepal," Anderson added.
