Similar, demonstrations were held in Kalaiya, the district headquarters.
Six-year-old Puja Sah was allegedly raped by Kanhaiya Gupta, 28, of Kalaiya-6 on February 20. A day after the incident, she was found lying unconscious on the spot where she was raped. She was airlifted to Kathmandu the next day.
The victim's family has said that they would perform her last rites only after the perpetrator is brought to book. District Police Office (DPO) of Bara has already arrested Kanhaiya.
Puja, daughter of Badri Narayan Sah of Kalaiya-4, is the fifth victim of rape in the district within a year.
In the wake of frequent rape incidents, civil society leaders have formed a "Beti Bachau" (save the daughters) struggle committee to campaign against rape in the district.
Keeping the body in front of the District Administration Office (DAO), Bara, the protestors have placed several demands.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Wednesday through the chief district officer of Bara, the protestors have demanded a scientific investigation into rape and murder of the minor, resignation of home minister and compensation of Rs 1 million to the victim's family, among other things, according to chairperson of the struggle committee Pramod Gupta.
He added that the committee will continue its protest until the government fulfills its demands.
Meanwhile, political leaders, including Baburam Bhattarai and Hisila Yami, who participated in the protest in Kathmandu, demanded that the government award capital punishment to the accused and create a society free from any form of violence against women.
