KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Human rights activists have staged demonstration in front of the Constituent Assembly building for about two hours on Monday, protesting amnesty provisions embodied in the bill on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on the Disappeared, which is under discussion in parliament.
Police have detained dozens of the protesters after they entered the prohibited zone near the CA building in New Baneshwor. [break]
Those detained are, Kapil Shrestha, Sundarmani Dixit,Charan Prasain, Dinesh Tripathi, Pradeep Pokharel, Bhawani Kharel, Gopalkrishna Sivakoti, Govinda Bandi, Keshav Sigdel, Mohan Gyawali, Bhakta Biswakarma,Chandramani Adhikari, Mahamuniswor, Indira Sharma, Kamala Rai, Krishna Subedi and Janak Raut.
The rights activists have been opposing the bill that would enable the government to grant blanket amnesty to those implicated in several cases of human rights violation perpetrated during the armed conflict.
