The trafficking victims were extended support as a part of the Trafficking Risk Reduction in Nepal (TRRIN) project launched in March 2010. [break]"Many beneficiaries supported through business startup and job placement opportunities left the NGO shelter where they first lived after trafficking," said a press statement issued by UN Information Center in Lalitpur, Tuesday.
The statement said the victims now live independently and have successfully reintegrated into society and are supporting their families with sustainable income. The project, which closes at the end of July, is financed by the IOM Development Fund and partnered with 11 companies which provided training or job placement to the participants.
"One of the key achievements of the project was the involvement of the private sector in the successful economic rehabilitation of the survivors and potential victims of trafficking," added the statement.
