POKHARA, Jan 25: Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) entered the semifinal of the Aaha-Rara Gold Cup Football Tournament after a hard fought 2-0 win over Gorkha Brigade in the extra time at the Pokhara Stadium, in Pokhara on Sunday.

Manang beat the 10-men Indian side in added 20 minutes after both sides played goalless draw in the regular 90 minutes.

Manang will face the winner of the match between Jhapa XI and Rahmat MF Society of Bangladesh. Amit Tamang and African recruit Olawal netted to help Manang book the semifinal spot.

Amit gave Manang a lead in the 96th minute through spot kick that he earned after Prashant Gurung of Gorkha Brigade fouled Olawal inside the box. Prashant, who had received his first yellow 87th minute earlier, was once again booked for the foul making it two yellows and had to leave the ground.

Olawal doubled the advantage in the injury time of first half's added 20 minutes. Olawal nicely placed a cross received from Sagar Limbu inside the danger zone. Manang's Bishwash Shrestha was adjudged man-of-the-match. Both the teams created several goal-scoring chances but failed to execute them and the winner had to be decided through an added time.

Gorkha Brigade's Sagar Limbu's header from D-box off Kiran Yakhha's cross was of no use in 12th minutes. Gorkha Brigade's Manish Hamal's powerful shot in the 81st minute was punched by Manang goalie Kiran Chemjong.

While, Manang's Olawal's shot in the 6th minute was denied by Gorkha Brigade goalie Mani Thapa, who once again proved his worth for the club by denying Sujal Shrestha's shot from 35 yard in the 59th minute.

Despite the defeat Gorkha Brigade manager KP Rai praised his side but expressed his anger against match referee Sudish Pandey. "Referee showed unnecessary cards to the players that made us unsatisfied, otherwise the match was competitive. I am satisfied with the players," he said.

Manang coach Chhiring Lopsang Gurung said that his side came in the tournament with the aim of winning the title.

"Although the match was competitive, we won due to our hard-work. We will produce even better games in the coming days," he said.
