Pilots of National Paragliding Association conducted six successful test flights from a height of 1,422 meter and landed at Khahare.
According to officials of Parbat Tourism Promotion Centre (PTPC), local entrepreneurs and tourism entrepreneurs from neighboring districts are coming forward to operate commercial paragliding flights. [break]
"Successful test flights were conducted following a feasibility study," Shiva Paudel, president of PTPC, said. He further said packages would be designed targeting domestic as well as foreign tourists.
Pilot Hum Bahadur Gurung said the half-an-hour test flight was really adventurous and Parbat is suitable for paragliding. "Since it was the first time, we operated the flight only for half-an-hour but it can be made longer," said Gurung.
He said it is important to consider factors like height from where the flights begin, air-flow, weather, and others, before introducing commercial paragliding flights.
To make the operation smooth, the committee is preparing to develop necessary infrastructure at Durlungkot. "We will coordinate with District Development Committee to start the operation. We are also working for leveling of the landing surface in Khahare.
Paudel said the feasibility study for paragliding operations is being conducted in Halhale of Kyang VDC as well. "Kyang can be a better destination for those who want to fly from higher altitude," he said.
Tourism entrepreneurs of Pokhara are charging Rs 5,000 for domestic and € 80 for foreigners for each half-an-hour flight.
