The fire had started from a tailor's shop and spread to the adjoining shops. It has been learnt that Prem Auji, the owner of Mayur Tailoring Center, was ironing clothes on Tuesday afternoon and suddenly the power went out. He forgot to unplug the iron and left for home. Police said when the power came back at 8:30 pm the fire started from the iron.A total of 11 shops were gutted, according to the chairman of Sanphe Market Management Committee Mohan Kunwar. The gutted shops include the tailor's shop, Taukir Traders, a quilt shop, a fancy clothing store, a barbershop, another tailor's shop, a poultry firm's outlet, a photo studio, a cell phone shop and a grocery.
The landlord of all the gutted shops is Nara Bahadur Kunwar of Sanphebagar Municipality-4.
Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel and locals had a team of security personnel were able to douse the fire after an hour and a half.
To prevent fire from spreading, they demolished some shops, according to locals.
