Beach volleyball team off to India
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): A six-member Nepali women volleyball team, including four players, left for India on Wednesday to take part in the Asian Central Zonal Beach Volleyball Championship slated for December 18-20 in Kerala. The pair of Saraswati Chaudhary and Nebika Chaudhary as well as the pair of Binita Budhathoki and Reshma Bhandari were selected for the championship after they finished as winner and runner-up, respectively, in the national beach volleyball tournament recently held in Itahari. Nepal will join teams from India, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan. Balaram Chhetri is the team coach and Lekhnath Sharma Parajuli the team manager.
Nepal takes Bangladesh in Int'l friendly today
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal is all set to play an international friendly football match against Bangladesh at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. Both the teams are playing the friendly as part of their preparation for the SAFF Championship scheduled to take place in India from December 23 to January 3. The match will kick off at 16:45 NST. "To play a friendly match of this standard six days ahead of the tournament is beneficial for the team. We did not have any tough matches apart from some training friendlies with league clubs and even though this has come late, we are happy about it," Nepal's head coach Patrick Aussems has been quoted as saying by All Nepal Football Association.
National open badminton from Thursday
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA):Gangata Youth Club of Gongabu, Kathmandu is set to hold the Third National Open Badminton Tournament from Thursday to Saturday at Annapurna Badminton Academy, Dhapasi height.
Organizing a press meet in the capital on Wednesday, the host informed that the tournament will feature five events with a separate event only for the national players preparing for the 12th South Asian Games.
Players within the top 16 ranks will only be eligible to play in the section, while other events include men's open and doubles sections, boys' U-14, mixed doubles and veterans (45 and above) categories.
The total cash prize of the tournament is Rs 550,000. The winner and runner-up will bag Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, in men's doubles, while the winner and runner-up in singles event will take Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000.
Likewise, the winners and runners-up in mixed doubles and veterans will claim Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively, and the winner and runner-up in boys' U-14 singles will take home Rs 15,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively.
