Save the Children Nepal, through its EveryOne campaign, supported a flash mob of college-going students to raise awareness about Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), its causes and methods of prevention. [break]
The flash mob that gathered on September 16 at Civil Mall, Kathmandu Mall and Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Pulchowk saw the participation of students from Kadambari College, Bright Vision International College and Classic International College.
“Everyone, from the government to the general public, has a role to play in reducing IMR. Such a campaign is more relevant in Nepal where infants die due to diseases which can be prevented through awareness,” said Shradha Shah, communication coordinator at Save the Children Nepal.

“We divided ourselves into groups and initiated a signature campaign. We also had a coloring event where visitors to the mall colored pictures related to infants and infant mortality while we interacted with them on the issue. Another of our activity was to ask people about the causes of IMR and then pen them down on pieces of paper to create a chain,” shared Shreya Poudel, a student of Bachelor in Social Work at Bright Vision International College.
One of the causes of IMR is inaccessibility to health facilities, especially, in the rural areas. In the urban areas, despite the accessibility, children are still dying from preventable diseases. “EveryOne campaign is not only about advocacy. Instead of rallies, campaigns such as these have more impact,” said Shah.
