Death toll in mysterious disease reaches five

LAHAN, June 11: A man died of the mysterious disease that has hit a Dalit settlement in Siraha last night, taking the death toll to five so far.


Sunil Sada,30, a resident of Chandraayodhyapur VDC-6 was the latest fatality caused by the unknown disease, according to the District Public Health Office, Siraha. The district hospital had referred him to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan but he refused to go and went home instead, where he died, Chief of the Office Dr Daya Shanker Lal Karna said.

Dizziness and vomiting are reported to be the symptoms of the disease that has spread terror among the locals. More than 20 people suffering from the disease are currently undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Siraha.

Blood samples have been sent to Kathmandu for examination and the disease may be identified only after receiving the report, Dr Karna said. Meanwhile, a medical team has been mobilized in the effected settlements so as to stop it from spreading further. RSS
