Established by Brian Kramer, a native of southern United States, the restaurant offers delicacies from around Kramer’s hometown.
“The cuisines served here are known as comfort food in the South of USA,” says the owner describing his choice of name for the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is also true to its theme with paintings and decor used to establish the feel of the South.[break]

Coming to the menu, it’s definitely different from the usual that are seen in Kathmandu. The restaurant has separate menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are looking for conventional choices with food such as momo and pizza, then this may not be your choice of place. But if you are ready to experiment and give yourself to the food offered at the restaurant, you will absolutely not regret. The best thing is you can also choose the quantity of the food and other side dishes and dipping according to your wish.
Hot wings can be perfect appetizers to start with. The chicken wings served with a tangy sauce and ranch dressing can make a good choice for the ones who are up for experimenting but still want to remain safe with the tastes. Hot wings is different from whatever you’ve tasted before and you would be surprised by the uniqueness from the dish as common as chicken wings. Its tangy taste sets the perfect mood for more food.
If you are there for lunch, then you can pick an interesting snack: Corndogs. Generally served with two sticks of corndogs accompanied by fries, you can decrease the quantity of the serving, depending upon your level of hunger. Hotdogs with a thick coat of corn flour, Corndogs is also healthy, with minimum use of oil or spices. However, it may come as very plain if you prefer spices in your food. The highlight of the dish, however, is the French fries. The fries are perfectly shaped, soft and cooked with consistency and a delight to eat.
Another choice for the main course can be Chicken Breast with Barbeque Sauce. Ideally a dinner cuisine, you may choose this if you are in no mood for snacks. With a considerable piece of chicken breast accompanied with mashed potatoes, this will surely give you the taste of the South. The chicken breast is perfectly cooked and the barbeque sauce rightly compliments its tastes. But like Corndogs, instead of the main dish, the side dish steals the show; the mashed potatoes are as good as the chicken breast and you’ll find yourself devouring till you wipe the plate clean.
If you think that you just experienced a round of good food, then you will be more surprised with the dessert. Bread Pudding with Ice cream Topping is the best choice for dessert. The bread pudding is soft but crispy. The ice-cream at the top helps to give the required flavor for the otherwise plain pudding. The dessert tastes not too sweet or not too plain; just perfect to end a good meal.
Though food can be rather very delightful at Southern Comfort, you may be a little disappointed with the drinks. The exclusive bar is under construction at present and the restaurant has a limited drink menu for now. Though you can have regular drinks, you’ll have to do away with cocktails if you are to dine at Southern Comfort.
Apart from that, it has a nice environment with sitting arrangements indoors as well as outdoors. It can be a perfect place if you love mixing good food with a little bit of chatting up with friends. The waiters are well informed with the menu and are patient enough while you take time to order the meal.
With its grand opening in a few months, Southern Comfort looks very promising. It is a good place for a nice dining that offers very unique tastes and a smooth service. For lovers of the traditional southern food of the States, you will be offered with a treat!
