Conflict-era stray bombs found, disposed

KHOTANG, May 31: Locals have found two pipe bombs at a ground in ward number one of Diktel municipality in Khotang district on Sunday. A Nepal Army's team has disposed the improvised explosive devices (IEDs).



"Our disposal team has defused the IEDs successfully," said Ram Bahadur Thapa, battalion chief at Jabbarjung battalion Mude Barrack of Diktel.

According to District Police Office (DPO), Khotang, the IEDs that were found at a field owned by a local, Chandrakala Rai, are from conflict era.


The bomb was nearly a meter long. Such stray IEDs from the confict era had earlier been found in the nearby areas as well. Locals suspect many more such bombs may be lying underground.
