KATHMANDU, Dec 28: Two people have died and nine others were injured in fire-related incidents reported from different parts of the country over the past 24 hours.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), most of the incidents occurred while people were warming themselves near fire, causing their clothes to catch fire. Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said fire accidents are being reported almost daily.
In Humla, a child died after a fire broke out at a house in Kharpunath Rural Municipality–2. Three others were injured in the same incident.

Similarly, a 22-year-old woman from Mahadev Rural Municipality–2 in Dhanusha district died after sustaining burn injuries while heating water using a gas stove. She later succumbed to her injuries during treatment at the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur.
In Sunsari’s Bhokraha area, a woman was injured after her sari caught fire while she was warming herself. Similar incidents were reported in Saptari and Mahottari, where women were injured after their clothes caught fire while warming near a fire.
Likewise, one person each was injured in Rautahat, Parsa and Dolakha under similar circumstances. In Bhaktapur, an 11-year-old girl was also injured while warming herself near a fire.
Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious while using fire for heating, especially during the winter season.
