TIKAPUR, Jan 4: Blind students of Narayanpur village are compelled to attend classes without the new edition of textbooks that were revised by the government a decade ago. Since 2006, the students of the resource center situated at Karnali Higher Secondary School have been studying textbooks of previous editions.

Lack of revised textbooks that were expected to make reading and writing easier for blind students has hampered their studies. The teacher at the resource center, Prem Chaudhari said that his center had demanded the books with the Department of Education many times, but to no avail.

Established in 2000, 12 students--six boys and six girls--are enrolled in different grades up to secondary level at the center. Topraj Simkhada, a seventh grade student, said that he was worried about not passing the higher secondary level due to shortage of textbooks. Due to lack of textbooks, studying subjects like Math and Science is quite difficult.

Apart from the lack of textbooks, the visually-impaired students complained that there aren't enough subject teachers to give proper attention to their specific needs. Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare CP Mainali recently visited the school raising hopes that the problems of the students would be solved soon.
